Chief Projects Officer, Australia Onshore Renewable Energy, Green Investment Group
Melbourne, Sydney Preferred location: Sydney, Melbourne Are you a driven and experienced renewable energy development and delivery leader who is looking to contribute to growing Australia’s green energy footprint ? Macquarie's Green Investment Group (GIG) is establishing a new renewable energy platform to support the development and growth of its existing 1. 7 GW onshore wind, solar and storage portfolio in ANZ. The business will develop, construct, own and operate a portfolio of renewable energy assets with a mission to accelerate the green transition. GIG is currently looking for a Chief Projects Officer – Development and Delivery to join this new renewable energy platform. Initially you will join GIG, before transitioning to the platform later this year . The Chief Projects Officer – Development and Delivery role is critical to the delivery of a diversified renewable energy asset portfolio. Reporting to the CEO of the platform, the role will be part of the senior leadership team, and will comprise the following key responsibilities:
- Developing clear project development and operations strategies, goals, plans, processes and resources that underpin the short-term and long-term business ambitions
- Providing leadership and direction for the development, engineering, construction, procurement, delivery and Work Health & Safety /Environmental, Social and Governance divisions that work across all renewable energy assets in the portfolio, to ensure activities align with business plans and annual operating requirements
- Coordination with the platform senior leadership team on development and delivery on the platform business plan and investment cases for new projects, including ownership of key development and delivery assumptions and risks.
- Managing the performance of project development and delivery in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner, through internal teams and effective engagement with key development partners, external stakeholders, and service providers
- Developing and executing project capital expenditure plans that meet and outperform the investment return targets
- Direct short and long-term operational plans whilst also identifying, evaluating, and mitigating strategic, operational, and financial risks, including Health and Safety (H&S), and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)
- Supporting corporate development initiatives and integration of new developments, assets and capabilities into the business
- Developing short and medium-term framework for the portfolio’s operational assets to be implemented as projects progress towards operations
- As a key member of the senior leadership team, creating an organisational culture focussed on safety, positive stakeholder relationships, performance excellence, financial outcomes, innovation and appropriate risk management
To excel in the role, you will be combining strong project development and delivery experience with deep knowledge of the energy markets to grow the business.
- You will bring at least 15 years of experience in the management and growth of an organisation, preferably with direct exposure to energy projects in the Australian market, in both a project-based environment and established state of development
- Proven experience in the energy/utilities industry (experience in the renewable energy sector would be strongly preferred), along with a track record of building a portfolio and delivering successful projects
- Strong track record and in-depth understanding of large-scale project development and project management within the renewable energy sector, with a strong bias towards Australian wind projects
- Evidence of both strategic and operational perspectives
- Excellent influencer and strong communication skills with the ability to engage employees, partners, commercial counterparts and stakeholders
- A track record of building, managing and developing high performing teams, drawing on a diverse range of skills and backgrounds and aligned around a common goal
